US GDP grows 0.8% in Q1, according to 2nd estimate

Economic growth in the United States slowed in the first quarter, although not as much as initially expected, amid the increase in construction spending.

GDP - USA (annualized rate)

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew at an annual rate of 0.8%, compared to 0.5% released last month, said on Friday (27) the Department of Commerce in its second estimate of GDP.

This was the weakest result since the first quarter of 2015 and below the 1.4% growth in the fourth quarter of last year.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected the first quarter of the GDP advance had been revised to 0.9%.

Disclosure of GDP in Brazil and in several other countries consider a different calculation, in which the economic activity of the period is compared with the previous quarter. By this criterion, the US GDP grew 0.12% in the first quarter from the fourth quarter 2015.
